A love of French architecture is reflected in this stunning Walkerville home, which is set up to be enjoyed for generations to come in an area that will be eternally prized. Vendors Oren and Gill Klemich bought the property 10 years ago, demolishing an existing house to build their holiday-inspired dream home seven years ago.
“Gill and I had just been to Paris and we were both really taken by the French Parisian architecture, and while this isn’t a carbon copy or a knock off of what you see on the Paris streets, there are elements here that certainly borrow heavily from those homes,” Mr Klemich says.
“It has the lines that we like, we love that rendered look – in fact we asked our renderer to replicate the rendering on the Adelaide law courts building because we had always loved that about that building – and we love the cast iron work on those balconies, that’s just such a common feature of French architecture.
“We wanted two storeys so we could have our girls up top and us downstairs – it flows really beautifully and really has been just the most wonderful family home.
“The girls have since moved out and it would just be nicer to have a family in the house, rather than just the two of us here, so we’re downsizing. Gill and I have lived in heritage villas and bungalows ever since we got married 38 years ago, and have always loved them, but there’s just something really special about living in something new. And despite it being some six years old, it still feels brand new.”
The home sits on an 1185sq m block and has four bedrooms, indoor/outdoor living, a cellar and an in-ground pool.
“I really wanted a great cellar and that has been a favourite feature of mine and it really enhances the entertainment aspects of the home,” Mr Klemich says.
“The home is great for parties and gatherings, and we had friends over just on Sunday night for a meal around the pool and it was wonderful. The home just works really well – we’ve had plenty of parties and 21sts and those sorts of things.
“The pool really is lovely too – I use it most nights before bed, and the gardens really are our pride and joy. Gill and I designed those ourselves, planted all the shrubs and we really love being out there.
“We’ll be sad to say goodbye to this place, and are incredibly proud of it, but it’s time for another family to love it like we have and really use it to the fullest.”
